Not true! Robredo says she has no intention of adding 2 more years to senior high

Vice President Leni Robredo yesterday debunked an apparent fake news going around about her intention to add two more years in senior high school if she wins the presidency next year.

The aspiring President laughed off the information that reached her through a text message during a Facebook live late Friday, Dec. 10, but took the opportunity to address it and clarify the apparent misinformation.

"Meron pang nag-text sa'kin kanina na dun daw sa kanila pinagkakalat daw, kaya ayaw daw sa akin bumoto kasi dadagdagan ko raw ng another two years yung senior high (Someone told me earlier that the reason why people in their area won't vote for me is that I will allegedly add two more years in senior high)," Robredo said.

"Meron na po tayong two years na senior high at wala po akong balak na dagdagan yung two years na yun (We already have two years in senior high and I don't have any plan to add two more years)," the Vice President clarified.

She further explained that she was only "proposing for a maritime track" in the existing senior high school curriculum to boost the maritime sector of the country and provide more seafarers to maintain the country's robust deployment of seafarers in international shipping.

"'Pag narinig n'yo po yung fake news na dadagdagan ko ng another two years, pasabi po hindi yun totoo (If you hear this fake news that I will add another two years, please let them know that it is not true)," Robredo said.

During the same Facebook live, the opposition leader also addressed two more fake news involving her housing projects in the provinces.

She tagged as fake information a spliced video, which shows that she ordered the use of "cheap materials" for a housing project. The Vice President clarified that she was only talking about the model unit of the housing projects, saying it would still be practical if owners decide to refer to the model units.

"Ang sinasabi ko pong mura lang na materials ang gamitin kasi gagawa po kami ng model unit. Ang sabi ko sa aming staff ay yung bilhin nila ay yung hindi masyadong mahal na materials para kung gagayahin ng mga house owner ay kaya nila (What I was saying on the low-cost materials was those that will be used in the model unit. I told my staff to only buy the inexpensive materials that the house owners can still afford it if they opt to copy the model house)," Robredo explained.

She also clarified that the nipa shingles they were giving were requested by displaced families in vulnerable areas to shield them from heavy downpour because "they are not allowed to construct permanent structures in their areas."

"Alam n'yo po, mahirap talaga kapag hindi kayo bumababa on the ground, hindi n'yo naiintindihan, marami po tayong kababayan na nakatira sa mga areas na hindi kanila and wala pa silang malilipatan, wala pang maibigay sa kanila na lilipatan yung pamahalaan. Bawal po silang mag-construct ng permanent structures so 'pag binabagyo sila at nasisira yung bahay nila, ang request po nila sa atin yung may pantapal sa mga butas na nipa-shingles (You know, it's really hard to understand when you don't go down to the ground where many Filipinos have no place to stay, because the government has yet to give them permanent housing. They are not allowed to build permanent structures so when their houses are damaged by typhoons, they request nipa shingles for repairs)," Robredo said.

She added her office often adjusts to the residents' request which sometimes also include coco lumber and tents.
