NCT 127 Jaehyun's gay romance Korean drama cancelled due to writer's religious beliefs
K-pop boy band NCT 127 member Jaehyun’s debut in a Korean drama keeps getting scrapped.
Jaehyun was supposed to star in a drama that is a remake of the 2001 Korean film “Bungee Jumping of their Own,” a movie on gay romance and reincarnation.

The original starred Lee Byung-hun as Seo In-woo, who falls in love with fellow university student In Tae-hee (played by Lee Eun-ju) in 1983. In 2000, or 17 years later, Seo In-woo, married, now works as a high school teacher.
One of his students is Im Hyun-bin (played by actor Yeo Hyun-soo). Seo In-woo sees traces of Tae-hee in Hyun-bin including his being good at drawing, using a waltz music as his ringtone, a song that he danced with Tae-hee. Seo In-woo has a deep affection for Hyun-bin.
Seo In-woo and Im Hyun-bin affirmed their love and they both jump off from a bungee jumping site with both of them holding hands. Tae-hee's dream is to do bungee jumping with Seo In-woo off a cliff in New Zealand.
In the remake as a drama, which was originally set to be streamed on Kakao TV, actor Lee Hyun-wook will play the role of Seo In-woo while Jaehyun will play Im Hyun-bin.
The drama was supposed to have 16 episodes and the filming was scheduled to start in January.
Good Choice Cut Pictures holds the rights to the original film including any plans of remake but Kakao Entertainment announced that the project was cancelled due to the opposition from the original screenwriter. The film “Bungee Jumping of their Own” was written by Go Eun-nim.
"In the process of preparing for the production, we received concerns about the remake from the original screenwriter. There is no problem in proceeding with the production because the production company (Choice Cut) holds all the rights, but after deep discussion, we decided to stop the production," said Kakao Entertainment, according to Korean media.
It was reported that the original screenwriter opposed the remake based on her religious beliefs. The screenwriter became a devout Christian after writing “Bungee Jumping of their Own.”
She heard the news that the film will be made into a drama and she expressed her opposition based on religious beliefs. It was reported that she vowed to take strong action if the remake was pursued. There was no financial demand from her side.
The production company finally agreed to stop the production after in-depth consultation with Kakao Entertainment.
This is the second time that Jaehyun’s foray into drama has been frustrated. He finished filming the drama “Dear.M,” which was supposed to air this year. However, due to the bullying allegations against its lead star, actress Park Hye-su, the airing of the drama has been deferred.
