DSWD increases vehicle fleet to 'give hope', deliver prompt service to more communities
Seeking to promptly serve more communities, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is set to turn over 16 passenger vans to its Field Offices (FOs).

The DSWD’s move to increase its vehicle feet was aimed at increasing its operational efficiency and capacity.
DSWD Secretary Rolando Joselito D. Bautista graced the blessing ceremony of the newly procured vans on Dec. 6.
The ceremonial turnover of the passenger vans to FOs was held. It was attended by Regional Directors Marcelo Nicomedes J. Castillo of Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal,Quezon) and Fernando R. De Villa Jr. of Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), and FO-National Capital Region (NCR) Administrative Officer Louel Soliva.
Undersecretary Jose Ernesto B. Gaviola of the General Administration and Support Services Group (GASSG) said the DSWD’s procurement of the new vehicles got the nod of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).
He said the DSWD was authorized to realign its budget to pave the way for the procurement of vans for all the FOs, as part of the Department’s Fleet Replacement Plan for the year 2021.
“Through the collective efforts of the offices under GASSG, we were able to successfully procure these 16 passenger vans. Hopefully by the end of this year, each unit will be delivered or distributed to the FOs,, together with other ICT equipment also procured for our FO counterparts,” Gaviola said.
Bautista said the new vehicles are not just mere means of transportation.
“On a bigger perspective, it is a symbol of how we deliver our services to our clients and beneficiaries – mabilis, maagap at nararating kahit gaano pa kalayo (fast, prompt, and far-reaching),” he said in his closing remarks.
He expressed hope that the DSWD’s increased fleet inventory will help FOs boost their operational capacity, and facilitate their program implementation, monitoring and payout activities.
“Malayo ang mararating ng mga sasakyan na ito, hindi lamang sa bilang ng kilometrong itatakbo, kung ‘di pati na rin sa dami ng serbisyo na maihahatid sa bawat benepisyaryo (These vehicles will go a long way, not only in the number of kilometers to be traveled, but also in the amount of service that will be delivered to each beneficiary),” Bautista said.
The DSWD said it is hopeful that through the new vehicle fleet, it can “give hope in every community it will reach.”
