The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said Friday, Dec. 10, that its operatives have arrested a South Korean national who was wanted by authorities in his country for alleged illegal drug trading.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said 43-year-old Lee Jungkuk was arrested last Monday by members of the BI’s fugitive search unit (FSU) in Brgy. Cauyan, Angeles City, Pampanga.
“He will be deported for posing risk to public safety and security, being a fugitive from justice wanted for illegal drugs,” Morente said.
The BI chief said Lee is subject of an outstanding arrest warrant issued by the Cheongju district court in South Korea five years ago after he was charged for trading and administering psychotropic drug.
The National Central Bureau of Interpol Manila alleged that on March 21, 2014, Lee asked his friend to encash a check which he used to purchase methampetamine from a compatriot.
If convicted, Lee could be sentenced to 10-years imprisonment for violating his country’s narcotics control act.
He is presently detained at the BI warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending deportation proceedings.
