Team Dasma sweeps SIS, advances to Champions League semis

Team Dasma Monarchs swept Sabong International Spikers, 25-20, 25-21, 25-23, Wednesday to advance to the semifinals of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) Champions League for Men at the Aquamarine Recreational Center in Lipa City, Batangas.

The Monarchs banked on their sturdy defense in whipping SIS and keeping their record unscathed at the end of the preliminaries.

Team Dasma finished Pool B on top with three wins following earlier victories against Global Remit, 23-25, 25-18, 27-29, 25-18, 15-12, and MRT Negros, 25-16, 22-25, 25-20, 25-23.

They will face the second-ranked team in Pool A composed of the Basilan Steel Spikers, Go for Gold-Air For Aguilas and the ManileÃ±o Spikers.

Madzlan Gampong steered the Monarchs with 12 points built on eight kills and three blocks, while Mark Frederick Calado poured all 11 points at the attack line.

Manuel Medina also stepped up in the service area by unloading four aces to finish with seven points.

SIS absorbed its second defeat in three matches despite the efforts of Jelord Talisayan and Charles Absin, who finished with 15 and 10 points.

SIS awaits its fate for the crucial second seed berth in Pool B with Global Remit and MRT Negros playing at press time.

Global Remit carries a 0-2 card while MRT Negros has 1-1.
