PLM launches face-to-face classes

The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) officially resumed face-to-face classes on Monday, Nov. 29, after more than a year of holding online classes.

A select group of BS Physical Therapy students were allowed for the first time since March 2020 in the PLM campus in Intramuros, Manila.

The first batch of College of Nursing students are expected to return on Tuesday, Dec. 7, and Saturday, Dec. 11, while the second batch are set to return on Jan. 4 and Jan. 8, 2022.

The PLM will be prioritizing senior graduating students and students enrolled in laboratory classes.

Aside from preparing the campus for the return of more students, the PLM is strictly enforcing health protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The students were required to submit to health screening, temperature checks, and to wear scrub suit uniforms, face masks, and face shields.

“Preparations are underway to prevent the return to school from becoming a super spreader of COVID-19. In turn, we enjoin our students to strictly adhere to health protocols to prevent the spread of infection,” said PLM President Emmanuel Leyco.

Meanwhile, the PLM will continue to accommodate online learning for students unable to attend onsite classes.

The reopening was held following the Commission on Higher Education’s (CHED) announcement regarding the resumption of onsite learning for higher education institutions (HEI) last Nov. 23.

CHED said universities must comply with certain health guidelines which include vaccinating students and faculty, retrofitting campus facilities with proper ventilation, following physical distancing requirements, and operating at 50 percent capacity.

“We at the PLM administration are excited to welcome back our students, although just a limited number for now, inside our campus. We exercise cautious optimism and ensure that minimum health protocols will be enforced at all times to keep members of our community safe,” said Leyco.
