PH study on nutrition, aging covers Tarlac, Pangasinan

The country’s study on nutrition and aging has covered Tarlac and Pangasinan, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) said.

DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Peña said the DOST-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) expanded the areas involved in the project.

“Nutrition and aging projects of DOST-FNRI now cover Tarlac and Pangasinan,” he said in a taped report.

“Until unti na dumadami coverage nila (The coverage of the study gradually increases).”

In August this year, De la Peña announced that the DOST-FNRI was expected to commence its research on the relations between body composition and quality of life in old age.

The project team met with health officers and barangay officials of the local government unit of Tarlac on Nov. 15, 2021.

It has been noted that coordination activities with the respondents at Barangay Tibag in Tarlac were held from Nov. 15 to 18, while data collection activities were conducted from Nov. 16 to 19.

The project aims to determine the association of body composition with the functional capacity and quality of life of older persons in selected regions in the country.

Specifically, it will assess the body composition, functional capacity and quality of life of older persons; and determine the following: relationship of muscle mass and fat mass with functional capacity and quality of life; relationship of geographic and environmental variables with the nutritional status of senior citizens using geographic information system or GIS; and the energy cost of selected physical and occupational activities of older persons.
