France donates 1.6M AstraZeneca jabs to Philippines

The Philippines received 1,632,900 doses of AstraZeneca coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccine on Wednesday, Dec. 1, which were donated by the government of France through the COVAX facility.

The vaccines arrived at Terminal 3 of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) around 4 p.m. via Emirates Airlines flight EK 332.

The delivery raised the total supply to 144,325,670 doses.

Based on the latest available data from the National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19, around 83 million doses have already been administered nationwide as of Nov. 29.

France’s donation arrived just as the country was on the last day of the first leg of the National Vaccination Days.

The three-day immunization drive, held from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1, sought to vaccinate at least nine million people.

According to available data from the National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC), a total of 5,000,353 individuals have been vaccinated so far.

However, it only reflects a partial tally of the vaccinations as some local government units (LGUs) have yet to transmit their data to the NVOC. The consolidated data is expected to be released on Thursday.

The second-leg of the National Vaccination Days will be held from Dec. 15 to 17.
