Comelec welcomes confirmation of Bulay

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Wednesday, Dec. 1, welcomed the confirmation of Commissioner Rey Bulay by the Commission on Appointments (CA).

"The appointment of our new commissioner Rey Bulay...has been concluded and is now confirmed commissioner of the Comelec. So we welcome his addition to the Comelec and we look forward to welcoming him in person," Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said in an interview Wednesday.

"We've already briefed him on a lot of the work that's being done in Comelec and we expect that it wil be a very smooth transition for him," he added.

Asked if Bulay will be part of the Comelec Second Division, Jimenez replied:"That's what's apparent right now. We will see because there will be retirements."

He said they have no information yet as to when Bulay will go to the poll body.

"No word yet on when he wil personally appear here in Comelec," said Jimenez.

"We've already talked to him virtually and we've already had at least one virtual briefing of all the Comelec directors of the main office. The next one probably with the field directors," he added.

Bulay was nominated by President Duterte as Commissioner last month for a term expiring on February 2, 2027.
