Instagram newbie BTS’ V followed and then unfollowed BLACKPINK’s Jennie on the social media platform, creating a firestorm among their fandoms.
All seven members of BTS launched their personal Instagram accounts on Dec. 6, which have amassed millions of followers to date. This is the first time that they created their own Instagram accounts since debuting in 2013.
In three days, BTS’ V (https://www.instagram.com/thv/) has garnered 21.4 million followers as of Dec. 8 and has uploaded five posts.
All seven BTS members are following each other but on Dec. 7, fans noticed that V followed Jennie’s account on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/jennierubyjane/?hl=en).
This created talks among fans. V eventually unfollowed Jennie.
On the fan community app Weverse, V posted, “Is there a way to get rid of the ‘recommended’ list on Instagram? It’s a scary app,” according to SBS News.
However, some people posted negative comments on Jennie’s Instagram account because of it.
Here are some comments by Korean fans on a YouTube post about it:
“Poor Jendeuk did nothing and is getting hate and who cares who Taehyung follows, it’s up to him,” one commented, according to Netizen Buzz.
Another wrote, “I don’t understand why Jennie has to get hate for this” while another person posted, “And this is why I didn’t want them opening Instagrams; I’m sure someone of their world class expected this to happen.”
“I feel so bad for him. Isn’t it okay to be friends? And it could also be a mistake. They’re under so much scrutiny for relationship rumors, I can’t imagine the stress,” another said.
One commented, “Maybe V is a Black Pink Jennie fan, what’s so wrong with a follow” and another posted, “Who cares about all these follows or unfollows.”
