Lacson: Comelec must face election result scammers by being transparent

Presidential aspirant Senator Panfilo M. Lacson on Tuesday, Dec. 7 asked the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to face up to the challenge put up by election result scammers through utmost transparency.

Lacson, of the Lacson/Sotto tandem, said it is true that supposed scammers are now making their presence felt.

The former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief stated that past automated elections have created this impression.

‘’The so-called 'meet me room’ that was put in place during the past two or three national elections cast doubt on the integrity of the automated elections,’’ he stressed.

Thus, Comelec should face the challenge through utmost transparency., he added.

Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III, a vice presidential aspirant, emphasized that ‘’that scam has been there for ages.’’

However, there are still some people who fall for it, he added.

‘’Hindi po dapat hayaan ang mga ganitong tao na sirain ang integridad ng ating halalan (Destruction of the integrity of our elections should be not be allowed),’’ Senator Joel Villanueva said.

Villanueva pointed out that these election result scammers are no different from the ‘’budol’’ (scammers) who prey on our countrymen by offering high-paying jobs that are actually fictitious.

‘’Tulad po ng ating payo sa mga nakakatanggap ng budol texts, marapat lang pong i-report ang mga ganitong tao sa mga kinauukulan upang tugisin at panagutin sa batas (I have advised our countrymen who have received ‘budol’ texts to report these to proper authorities who will go after these scammers).’’ he stated.
