Magnitude 3.5 quake hits Batangas -- Phivolcs

An earthquake measuring 3.5-magnitude has occurred in Verde Islands, Batangas on Monday morning, Dec. 6, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs detected the earthquake at 3 kilometers (km) northeast of Verde Island in Batangas City, Batangas province around 10:47 a.m.

It was also recorded at a shallow depth of 9 km.

Phivolcs' instruments measured the quake at Intensity III in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro, and Intensity II in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro.

It said the earthquake was tectonic in origin, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.

However, Phivolcs does not expect aftershocks to occur due to this earthquake.
