An offshore earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 hit 285 kilometers (km) southeast of Sarangani Island in Sarangani, Davao Occidental on Sunday morning, Dec. 5, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The quake was recorded at a depth of 156 km around 7:48 a.m.
Phivolcs initially measured the earthquake at magnitude 6.5 but later revised it to magnitude 6.1.
It also did not record any intensity data from this particular earthquake due to its distance offshore.
However, Phivolcs said that aftershocks may occur.
