Presidential aspirant and Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno Domagoso” on Saturday, Dec. 4, urged the government anew to prepare for the new COVID-19 variant Omicron.

Domagoso, along with his running mate Dr. Willie Ong and Aksyon Demokratiko senatorial slate, visited the town of Naic in Cavite as part of their Listening Tour in the run-up to the 2022 May elections.

In his speech, Domagoso reiterated the need for the government to prioritize life-saving medicines against the deadly disease, and some medical equipment and facilities in order to be well-prepared for the possible entry of the new variant in the country.
“Ang gusto talaga namin, bumili tayo ng Remdesivir, Tocilizumab, Baricitinib, at yung Molnupiravir. Magstock na tayo ng oxygen. Gumawa na tayo ng mga pasilidad (What we really want is to buy Remdesivir, Tocilizumab, Baricitinib, and Molnupiravir. Let’s stock up on oxygen. Let’s build facilities),” he said.

“Pag nagamit, thank you. Pag di nagamit, thank you pa rin. At least handa tayo (When used, thank you. If not able to use, still thank you. At least we’re ready),” he added.

Last month, around 40,000 capsules of Molnupiravir were delivered to the Sta. Ana Hospital in Manila.

Nearly three million COVID-19 vaccines were also administered during the government’s three-day national vaccination drive.

The gradually reopening of the economy must also be continued, the Manila mayor added.

“Basta handa tayo sa posibleng uncontrollable growth brought by the new variant, which is Omicron. Pero habang naghahanda tayo, bumubukas ang ekonomiya. Bumubukas ang oportunidad. Bumubukas ang hanapbuhay (As long as we are prepared for the possible uncontrollable growth brought by the new variant, which is Omicron. But as we prepare, the economy opens up. The opportunity opens up. The job opens up).
