The community pantry started giving away goods on Wednesday, Dec. 1 and will run until Sunday, Dec. 5.

According to Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian, the initiative is in time for the Christmas holidays.

"We're opening December in the true spirit of giving! Pleased to share with everyone that the Chinese Embassy held the start of a week-long Community Pantry in Tondo, Manila today," Huang said as he shared the activity on his official Facebook page on Dec. 1.

"The Embassy was able to rally up enough essentials and care packages for the barangays in Tondo until December 5," the Ambassador added.

He disclosed that the initiative was powered by collaboration with the Chinese Enterprise Philippines Association Inc. (CEPA), PowerChina, and other Chinese organizations and volunteers.

Beijing's top envoy also expressed that he was "really glad that we get to help out many of our Filipino friends just in time for the Christmas season. Truly a heartwarming moment to see our side share the blessings and put a smile on many people's faces, exemplifying the spirit of Bayanihan!"

"It was a very fun event, seeing people safely gathered together in the community pantry. It shows that no matter what happens, we are working together hand-in-hand towards a beautifully shared future. Hope to bring more happiness and meaningful work to our Filipino friends this wonderful holiday season," Huang further said.
