Sharon Cuneta debuts in Kapamilya teleserye, says role 'bit complicated'

Megastar Sharon Cuneta has joined the star-studded cast of "FPJ's Ang Probinsyano" on ABS-CBN.
What will Sharon's role be? Will she be Coco Martin's friend or foe?
Sharon was excited to be part of the iconic show but remains secretive about her role.
"Malalim ang panggagalingan ng story ng character ko. The role is a bit complicated. I'm excited to do anything they want me to do, huwag lang bold. Bangungot yun sa mga manonood," she laughed, during a global press conference hosted by Gretchen Fullido on Nov. 9.

On action scenes, Sharon said: "I think meron. Tinanong nga ako ni Coco kung gusto ko raw ng action scenes. Na-miss ko na yun. I've worked with big action stars, si Coco na lang ang hindi. Pero sorry. I'm bringing back Sharon na nakasanayan n'yo na. Older and wiser. Mostly magiging drama muna."
Sharon said she's ready for a series of lockdown taping in Ilocos Sur for several weeks.
"Ready na ako sa lock-in taping, When I did 'Revirginized,' I had a taste of it. It's for everyone's' safety. Mapapalayo ka sa mga mahal mo sa buhay pero it's for everyone's safety. I prepare mentally and emotionally because mapapalayo na naman ako sa family ko, a couple of weeks at a time. Hindi ko kaya three weeks to a month," she added.
Sharon narrated how she became part of the popular series. She was still in the US when her character was conceptualized via a series of Zoom meetings with Coco and Cory Vidanes, chief operation officer for broadcast for ABS-CBN.
"When the story was pitched to me, it was a no-brainer. Sino ba yung ayaw maging part ng 'Ang Probinsyano?' Ang nerbyos ko lang is paano kaya gumawa ng teleserye everyday. Sanay ako sa movies. At ang laki-laki ng papasukin ko na serye because it's been No. 1 for six years. Oo agad ako. My family is excited to see me in the show. Sobrang thrilled ako.

"FPJ was my best, best friend in the business. Coco has maintained FPJ's legacy.
"Right on the spot (I accepted the role). Pinagusapan na lang namin yung details sa Zoom. It's also a dream come true. It's really an honor to be part of the cast. It's heartwarning na pinaghandaan ang character ko. Sabi ko nga punta na tayo ng Ilocos," she said.
Sharon also reminisced about the late Fernando Poe Jr. whom she called a father and protector. "The biggest stars are the humblest. Ehemplo siya ng humility like Tito Dolphy. He was a good person, humble, kind, at nakakatawa. At dumadalaw siya sa set ko. Close ako sa kanilang mag-asawa. In FPJ, I have a father, a protector. So many memorable memories with FPJ."
“FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” continues to achieve milestones in its sixth year as it became the first Filipino teleserye to livestream on YouTube, where it repeatedly smashed its own live viewership record, peaking at 162,831 concurrent viewers.
Through the years, “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” and its stars have also received over 100 awards from various award-giving bodies. The legendary show has also enjoyed success overseas as it is seen in other countries via Netflix and The Filipino Channel and its TV broadcast in Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, and 41 countries in Africa.
