PHLPost to honor Filipino ‘Living Legends’ with special postage stamp series

The first series of ‘Living Legend: World-Renowned Filipinos’ will feature icons such as Tony winner Lea Salonga and international fashion designer Josie Natori

In the past, the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) has been spotlighting Filipino culture and heritage through commemorative stamps. Among its special releases present Filipino personalities that have an indelible mark in local history and pop culture and have honored the country on the international stage. Among them are beauty queens Gloria Diaz, Margie Moran, Megan Young, and Pia Wurtzbach, boxer and senator Manny Pacquiao, and basketball player Robert Jaworski.

This month, PHLPost is going big as it celebrates its 75th anniversary with the launch of “Living Legend: World-Renowned Filipinos: Series I.” The latest stamp issuance is also part of its “SALAMAT: Pagpupugay sa mga Alamat” commemorative series.

PHLPost has been releasing teasers online about the icons that will be included in the new release. One of the personalities in the lineup is Tony award-winning actress Lea Salonga. “I’ve been chosen to be commemorated on a stamp and postcards to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the first postage stamp in the Philippines! And I am in wonderful company!” she says.

Speaking of good company, the new stamp designs, to be launched on Nov. 13, 2021, are expected to feature international fashion designer Josie Natori and fast food brand Jollibee, among others.

“This first series includes Filipino icons whose great performance in art, fashion, science, sports, and business touched the world,” the office says. “These Living Legends have brought genuine pride and honor to our people. The Post Office in its own little way shall honor them through #postagestamps!”
