NorthPort makes another move, trades Sidney Onwubere for Ginebra's Art dela Cruz

NorthPort pulled off its third trade in the last four days after agreeing to send Sidney Onwubere to Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in exchange for Art dela Cruz.

The PBA Commissioner’s Office approved the deal Tuesday. Nov. 9 as the Batang Pier made another move after acquring Vic Manuel from the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters before sending him to the San Miguel Beermen.

Onwubere will join the talented Gin Kings side after coming off the best conference of his three-year PBA career.

He played 13 games in the recent Philippine Cup and averaged 9.6 points on 40-percent shooting with 5.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists for NorthPort, which acquired the former Emilio Aguinaldo College standout from Rain or Shine in a three-player deal last January.

Dela Cruz leaves Ginebra four years after being traded from Blackwater in the Chris Ellis trade. Injuries, however, kept the ex-San Beda standout on the sidelines for most of his time with the Gin Kings.

He last saw action in last year’s Philippine Cup bubble, posting 2.2 points and 2.0 rebounds in five games.

NorthPort began to make changes in preparation for the planned start of the Governors’ Cup later this month by sending its long-time cager Sean Anthony and Sean Manganti to Phoenix for Manuel and Mike Calisaan.

The Batang Pier eventually became a quick detour for Manuel as he was shipped to the Beermen in exchange for former Most Valuable Player Arwind Santos in a stunning deal the other day.
