A new station of the Pasig River Ferry Service (PRFS) was inaugurated Tuesday, Nov. 9, to accommodate more people taking public transportation amid the reopening of the country’s economic activities.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) led the opening of Kalawaan Station on N. Cuevas St. near Kalawaan Bridge in Pasig City.

The new station is the 12th station of PRFS and is expected to be followed by two more stations—Quinta and Marikina.
MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos said ferry services are critical amid lack of available public transportation due to COVID-19 pandemic. He said they are "one of the solutions to the problems in public transportation."
"We want to serve residents of San Mateo and other parts of Rizal. This will be our new gateway, not just to address traffic, but also keep intact the rich cultural heritage of the Pasig River," Abalos said.
According to MMDA, PRFS serves about 300 to 440 passengers daily. Currently, the ferry service has a total of 17 ferry boats—nine of them are operational. Rides are still free for commuters.
The 11 other stations are Pinagbuhatan, San Joaquin and Maybunga in Pasig City; Guadalupe, Valenzuela in Makati City; Hulo in Mandaluyong City; and Lambingan, Sta. Ana, PUP, Lawton, Escolta in Manila City.
