Bacolod City launches BACuna Card for fully vaxxed residents

BACOLOD CITY - Fully vaccinated residents here will have the convenience of traveling in and out of the city as the city government unveiled the BACuna Card that will primarily serve as a "passport" for domestic travel.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia, in an interview after the launching held at the Bacolod City Government Center, said the release of the BACuna Card is very timely considering that COVID-19 infections in the city are on a decline the last two weeks with only 18 cases recorded on Nov. 8.

The last time Bacolod had cases below 18 per day was on August 18, he pointed out.

The BACuna Card is a digital copy of a person's vaccination record with a QR code for quick verification and authentication.

It is QR-coded, according to Edrien Robete, head of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Data Management Cluster.

Once it is swiped, important vaccination data of the vaccinee will appear, such as the date he or she was jabbed, among others, thus, assuring its authenticity, Robete said.

It will also be used by restaurants to allow customers to dine in, or movie houses or cinemas may also require the same in the future.

Dr. Chris Sorongon, EOC deputy for medical, data analysis and management, said the BACuna Card is also an alternative in lieu of a vaccination certificate or card.

Since it is still on its first phase, it is only available for fully vaccinated individuals and for those who are travelling locally, he added.
