QC Task Force Disiplina ordered to explain arrest of 3 ambulant vendors
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has vowed to investigate the arrest of three ambulant vendors who were seen in a viral video being dragged by members of Task Force Disiplina (TFD) into their service vehicle last Friday morning.
The incident happened during an anti-illegal vending operation conducted by the TFD in Novaliches, Quezon City
“We have examined the video and are definitely taking this situation seriously,” Belmonte said.
Belmonte added that she already ordered the TFD to explain their side and provide further context of the circumstances that led to the vendors' arrests.
"Needless to say, if there is evidence, we will punish anyone who used excessive force and abused their authority while arresting these vendors," she said.
The local government said that based on the information given by the TFD, a group of vendors threw rocks at the task force's service vehicle during the operation. They invited the group for a dialogue, but they resisted.
The TFD members were left with no other choice but to arrest the vendors with the assistance of the police.
Belmonte said that the incident that went viral on social media will undergo proper investigation and those who would be found guilty will be punished.
