An earthquake measuring 4.8-magnitude jolted Davao Oriental at around 12:16 p.m., Monday, Nov. 8, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs originally measured the tremor as a 4.4-magnitude quake but later upgraded it to magnitude 4.8.
Its epicenter was traced 62 kilometers northeast of Cateel, Davao Oriental at a depth of 28 kilometers.
Phivolcs said it was felt as a "weak" tremor at Intensity III in Cateel and Baganga in Davao Oriental; Nabunturan, Maco, Monkayo, and Compostela in Davao de Oro; and Panabo City in Davao del Norte.
The earthquake was tectonic in origin, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
Phivolcs noted that damage to property or aftershocks due to this earthquake is not expected.
