An infectious disease expert on Monday, Nov. 8, urged all parents to have their children vaccinated against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In a Facebook post, Dr. Edsel Salvana wrote this message for parents hesitating to get their kids vaccinated against the virus.
"All these doctors rushing to get their kids vaccinated against COVID-19 as the vaccine programs in their home countries open to the younger ones are either really smart or just haven't done their 'research'," Salvana stressed.
"If you think we haven't done our 'research,' then good luck finding a 'well-researched' doctor when you come down with COVID-19. I hope you survive," he added.
The Philippines started the vaccination of all children aged 12 to 17 on Nov. 3 in an expansion of its pediatric jab coverage against COVID-19.
Salvana also maintained that COVID-19 booster shots "are not yet needed."
"Vaccines seem to be holding up well against COVID-19 infections in healthcare workers. No signs of waning protection so far. Remember, most of these are either Sinovac or Astra. I am aware of anecdotal breakthrough infections but the data doesn't reflect a drastic increase," he added.
"Let's wait for recommendations on boosters and act accordingly. This will include what to boost with, the proper timing, and the safest combination."
On Nov. 2, National Task Force Against COVID-19 Adviser Dr. Ted Herbosa said the Department of Health (DOH) will soon issue guidelines on the administration fo booster vaccines.
The DOH earlier approved the provision of booster shots to fully vaccinated healthcare workers, senior citizens, and persons with comorbidities.
