The Makati City local government said that over 3,900 minors aged 12-17 have already received their vaccine against COVID-19.
Makati City Mayor Abby Binay said on Monday, Nov. 8, that a total of 3,932 minors were inoculated with their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine while 20,055 have already registered for the city's vaccination program.
Binay added that out of this number, 11,891 registrants are between the ages of 12 and 15, while 8,164 of them belong to the 16-17 age bracket.
Only Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are allowed for use in minors after being issued Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The mayor attributed the high number of registrants to the proactive stance of both the national government and local government units (LGUs) in increasing the number of people who have been vaccinated against the dreaded virus.
She also urged her constituents to have their children vaccinated and to not believe in fake news that continue to spread through social media.
Binay added that the LGU is fully prepared for any negative side effects that the minors may experience during and after their COVID-19 vaccination.
