Mayor Zamora on Alert Level 2 implementation in San Juan: 'So far, so good'
Three days after Metro Manila shifted to the more relaxed Alert Level 2 last Nov. 5, San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said on Monday that the city is doing well in observing the public health and safety protocols in its business establishments and parks and recreational areas.
"With the implementation of Alert Level 2, operational capacity has has been increased, age restriction has been lifted, our curfew has been lifted. But remember that we are doing this during the time wherein Metro Manila has a very high vaccination rate. So what we really need to monitor are the strict adherence to the minimum public health and safety standards and of course, the business establishments will have to police their customers," Zamora said in an interview with CNN Ph.
"They should not allow those who are not vaccinated to enter except those aged below 18 years old. The 50 percent indoor capacity and 70 percent outdoor capacity must be followed," he added.
During Alert Level 2, there are no age-based mobility restrictions in the metro. Alert Level 2 also allows an increased capacity for businesses and activities such as restaurant dine-in, beauty salons and the like, and religious activities, among other things.
Asked how the local government unit (LGU) keeps track of the businesses' adherence to the safety protocols, Zamora said that he and the owners and operators of the establishments frequently hold meetings to make sure that despite the loosened restrictions, health and safety protocols will not be breached.
"Even prior to Alert Level 2, I was always meeting with the mall management and the owners of these establishments and I told them number one, just in case the alert level increased again because of also the increase in the number of cases, it would be you and your employees and everyone else that will suffer. I made it clear to them that they will have to be responsible as well," Zamora said.
Based on data from Go Negosyo, the National Capital Region has already vaccinated 89.03 percent of its population as of Nov. 4.
