ECHO parts ways with Jay, Aspect, Invoker

The roster revamp continues for ECHO as it released three players on Monday, Nov. 8 following the team’s 5th to 6th place finish in the MPL Philippines Season 8.

ECHO announced the departure of its reserves Jason Rafael “Jay” Torculas, Samuel Josef “Invoker” Cruz and Joshua “Aspect” Tating.

“Today, Jay, Aspect and Invoker officially depart our team roster. GGs and thank you, boys! GL further, and wish you all the best in your careers!,” said ECHO in its announcement.

Jay played second stringer to ECHO team captain Christian “Rafflesia” Fajura while Aspect actually started out as the team’s jungler before he was replaced by Jaymark “Hadess” Lazaro for the rest of the season.

The release of the three players served as another major move for ECHO in the offseason as it also granted release to its former head coach Steven “Dale” Vitug who announced his retirement from Mobile Legends pro scene last month.

It was a roller coaster ride for the ECHO in Season 8. After a rousing start that saw them beat MSC champions Omega Esports and M2 World champion Bren Esports consecutively in the first week, the team’s performance went downhill when some of its players including Rafflesia contracted COVID-19 during the tournament.

The reserves failed to sustain the momentum as ECHO absorbed three straight losses during that stretch. ECHO still made it to the playoffs but was immediately booted out by Omega in the play-in for the upper bracket.

ECHO’s lackluster showing continued in the MPL Invitational as it failed to get past the second round of the tournament after falling to the hands of RSG Philippines. The team, however, showed promise when it beat Indonesia’s Aura Fire in the first round.
