Yuka Saso finishes at joint 22nd in Toto Japan Classic

Yuka Saso stumbled with a closing-round 2-over-par 74 to finish tied at 22nd place in the 2021 Toto Japan Classic at the Seta Golf Course in Shiga Prefecture Sunday.

Saso shot three birdies in the last 10 holes but struggled with three bogeys and a double bogey on the par-4 fifth hole to finish with a four-round aggregate of 285.

She had earlier rounds of 71, 70 and 70.

Saso joined Lee Min-Young (70) and Teresa Lu (71) at 22nd to 24th places, 13 strokes behind eventual champion Ayaka Furue.

Furue, who grabbed the third-round lead Saturday, fired a bogey-free 69 to finish with a 272 total following earlier rounds of 68, 67 and 68.

Inami Mone finished three shots behind Furue with a 275 after a fourth-round 70, while Mao Saigo came in third with 279 despite a 73 in the last round.

Serena Aoki blasted a 65 for a share of fourth to sixth place with Momoko Osato (69), Momoko Ueda (75) with identical 280s, while Hinako Shibuno (68), Ayaka Takahashi (70) and Karuka Morita (71) finished seventh to ninth places with 281.

Saso's 22nd place finish still earned her 2,263,800 yen (around P1 million).
