Former public works and highways chief Mark Villar is leading the May 2022 senatorial race, based on the latest non-commissioned survey conducted last October 17 to 27, 2021.
The survey by the RP-Mission and Development Foundation Inc. (RPMD) said Villar and another senatorial candidate, radio and television personality Raffy Tulfo, shared the first to second places who both enjoyed a majority voters’ preference with 53.5 percent and 53.1 percent rating.
Villar resigned as Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) secretary last October 4. He is running under the Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban’s (PDP-Laban) senatorial slate led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi.
The RPMD study showed that “amongst the 30 candidates, 16 have a statistical chance of winning- 12 of them are former or incumbent members of Congress.”
Villar and Tulfo is followed by senatorial candidates Sorsogon Governor Francis “Chiz” Escudero at 48.9 percent, Taguig Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano, 48.5 percent; Antique Rep. Loren Legarda at 48.2 percent, and former Vice President Jejomar “Jojo” Binay at 37.4 percent.
