Taguig City posts lowest active COVID-19 cases in 6 months

Mayor Lino Cayetano said Taguig recorded the lowest number of active coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in six months on Nov. 4, which was “achieved through continuous aggressive testing and active case finding.”

“Throughout 2021, Taguig has led the country in government testing with over 35 free testing centers across the City. Taguig has also been among the cities with the lowest COVID-19 active cases, case fatality rates (CFR) and deaths. Our CFR is 0.80, while our deaths are at 42 per 100,000 population. These are extremely low compared to national and international averages,” he said.

As of Nov. 4, Taguig has 271 active COVID-19 cases including 55 new cases out of 51,239 confirmed cases, 50,558 recoveries and 410 deaths.

A tally on Nov. 5 by OCTA Research showed Taguig had 20 new cases for the day based on the Department of Health’s Data Drop and placed 18th among local government units with the highest cases in the country.

“Over 90 percent of our cases today are now asymptomatic or mild. We believe that this can be attributed to both behavioral change and aggressive vaccination. We should keep transmission and deaths low and not let irresponsibility take us into another surge,” said Cayetano.

Lino welcomed the decision of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) to place Metro Manila under Alert Level 2 from Level 3.

“We want to assure all our citizens, visitors, and stakeholders that Taguig will remain to be a Safe City. We ask for your continued cooperation. Let us be vigilant; let us not allow a few to compromise the many. We have lost too much. We have lived with the virus for almost 20 months now; we should all know how to keep ourselves and others safe, as well as manage and calculate the risks involved in any activity that we do,” he said.

He warned that “when individuals and institutions endanger the health and safety of our citizens, they will be engaged immediately, while repeat and malicious violators will be penalized.”

“Let us continue to work together, stay united, and help each other. Taguig City is safe and open for business,” said Cayetano.

A report by the Taguig Safe City Task Force showed that from Oct. 29 to Nov. 4, a total of 1,045 violators were apprehended consisting of 31 who were reported through the hotline, 37 were issued citation tickets and 977 were given warnings.
