Duterte justifies his anti-drug campaign: 'Everything I did, I did it for my country'

President Duterte explained that he initiated all his programs -- including his controversial war on drugs -- because he wants to protect the country, the Filipinos, and the youth.

Duterte made the statement after the International Criminal Court (ICC) decided to open an investigation on the President's bloody drug war.

In a speech in Siargao on Saturday, November 6, the President insisted that he should only be tried because of his drug war, it should be done in the Philippines and by Filipinos only.

"If I am tried, I should be tried by a Filipino judge in a Philippine tribunal, and I should be prosecuted by a Filipino prosecutor," he said.

"Kung sabihin na panahon na magpunta sa Muntinlupa, eh 'di... kung 'yan ang swerte mo, 'di sige (If you tell me that it's my time to go to Muntinlupa, if that is my destiny, then so be it)," he added, referring to the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.

He even referred to the ICC probe as "kalokohan" or nonsense.

Meanwhile, Duterte said that everything he did was because of his desire to protect the country

"Everything I did, I did it for my country," he said.

"I did it because I want to protect their children their future. Hindi akin 'yan (That was not for me)," he added.

"Ginawa ko lang ang trabaho ko kasi ayaw ko nga masira ang bayan ko (I was just doing my job because I don't want my country to be destroyed)," he continued.

The President even reiterated that he did not even get anything from his policies.

"Hindi ako nakinabang diyan. Wala akong satisfaction diyan. Hindi ako nagkaroon ng pera ni singko sentimos diyan (I did not benefit from that. That gave me no satisfaction. I did not get even five cents from that)," Duterte said.

"Kayo lahat ang taong Pilipino ang nakinabang, wala ako (It's you Filipinos who benefited from it, not me)," he added.
