The Department of Health (DOH) said it is currently evaluating the need for people to wear face shields in areas with a low number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases.
DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that the use of a face shield was discussed during the recent Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) meeting.
“The Department of Health has manifested na kailangan pa namin pag-aralan maigi (that we still need to this thoroughly),” said Vergeire on Friday, Nov. 5.
“Ang ating (Our) health experts, ang Living CPG (Clinical Practice Guidelines) team is doing the re-evaluation of the face shield requirements,” she added.
Vergeire said that they will soon release their recommendation about the matter.
“Hintayin natin lumbas yan. Meron kaming pagpupulong sa Lunes para makapagbigay tayo ng appropriate recommendation sa IATF (Let's wait for that to come out. We have a meeting on Monday so that we can give an appropriate recommendation to the IATF),” she added.
Under the current guidelines, the "mandatory use of a face shield on top of face masks shall be done in high risk activities under the 3C’s": closed, crowded, and close settings.
