BOC seizes P1.9-M Indonesian cigarettes smuggled in Saranggani
Around P1.9 million worth of Indonesian cigarettes that were allegedly smuggled in Glan, Saranggani were recently confiscated by the Bureau of Customs (BOC), it reported on Friday, Nov. 5.

According to BOC's Port of Davao, the smuggled cigarettes were loaded in a motorboat at the municipal waters of Glan in Saranggani Bay last Oct. 24 when they were taken by the Customs.
The crew members of the boat, a certain Sandy Sawotong and Edison Pareda, both residents of General Santos City in South Cotabato, were detained for alleged illegal transportation of 40 boxes of "Gudang Baru," an Indonesian-made cigarette.
The BOC said the operation was made possible through the intensified land and maritime surveillance operations in the area.
Meanwhile, a warrant of seizure and detention was issued against the seized items for violation of Section 1113 (property subject to seizure and forfeiture) of Republic Act No. 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).
