A total of 142 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were vaccinated against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) as its "Bakuna Bus" returned to Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Kalibo, Aklan, the agency said on Thursday, November 4.
In a statement, PRC said that 142 PDLs received their second doses on Wednesday, November 3. According to the PRC Aklan Chapter, they have administered more than 3,000 doses as of November 2, 2021, ever since they first deployed their Bakuna Bus last September 16, 2021.
The PRC also deployed their Bakuna Buses to other BJMPs located in NCR, Region 6, and Region 7 namely the BJMPs in Navotas, Iloilo, Talisay, Bogo City, and Danao City.
As of November 3, the humanitarian organization has now vaccinated more than 5,300 PDLs helping further decrease the number of COVID-19 cases in jails.
"Narito ang Red Cross upang magbigay ng pag-asa para sa mga pinaka-mahina (Red Cross is here to give hope to those who are most vulnerable)," PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon said.
"Patuloy ang aming suporta sa pagbabakuna lalo na sa mga COVID-19 priority groups upang protektahan ang mas maraming Pilipino (Our support to COVID-19 vaccination continues especially to the priority groups to protect more Filipinos)," he added.
Those who would like to register for vaccination may call 1158 or email the PRC at [email protected].
