Pateros mayor: NCR should stay under Alert Level 3; minors still covered by curfew
Pateros Mayor Miguel “Ike” Ponce III said Metro Manila should stay under COVID-19 Alert Level 3 until the end of November.
During the “Laging Handa” public briefing on Nov. 2, Ponce was asked by Unsersecretary Rocky Ignacio if he was in favor of downgrading the alert level in Metro Manila from 3 to 2, which is being requested by the business sector.

As the number of coronavirus disease cases have decreased especially in Metro Manila, the government has started to ease restrictions.
Ponce and other Metro Manila mayors signed and approved a Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) resolution lifting the curfew in the National Capital Region starting Nov. 4.
According to Ponce, the lifting of the curfew is one of the mayors’ responses in order for the economy to bounce back especially during the Christmas season and it was also done due to the decreasing number of COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila.
In Pateros, the mayor said he will issue an executive order and will request the Municipal Council to hold a special session to lift the curfew but minors below 18 are still covered by curfew hours.
He said minors will only be allowed to go out during their curfew hours if they are accompanied by their parents.
“As I have said, unless they are with their parents, meaning if they go out as a family or with their father or mother, we will allow it even if it is beyond midnight,” said Ponce.
He added that so far, he has not talked to mall operators regarding the lifting of the curfew. Even if the curfew is lifted, he said, malls will still be strict in implementing health and safety protocols.
“It is up to the malls, the operator and owner, on what they will allow because we all are cautious and we do not want to be complacent and ease rules and then go back to the surge like we experienced before,” Ponce said.
The Pateros municipal government started the vaccination of minors 12 to 17 years old with comorbidities on Nov. 3
