Kontra Daya: Wrong to accept bribes but people should not be 'judgmental' of those who will

Kontra Daya has given their take on the unending issue of vote buying that has been going around for weeks and said that while it is wrong to encourage voters to take the money, they should not be judged should they choose to accept it.
In an interview on ANC, the poll watchdog convenor Danilo Arao said that what Vice President Leni Robredo did was wrong when she told people to accept the payment but vote based on their conscience.
This was after Arao was read a query from a viewer questioning Kontra Daya's credibility for not calling out the Vice President's statement and say that it was wrong.
"Well it's wrong, definitely. You cannot condone, you know, something that's illegal and you won't catch Kontra Daya saying that people should accept, you know, the bribes that are given to you," Arao said.
He explained that instead of denouncing those who are forced to accept the money, the people should be calling out those who are exploiting the poor to buy their way into elections or to buy their way into the minds of voters out of the so-called "utang na loob".
Arao reiterated that it is wrong whether someone is from the opposition or from the administration to encourage people to accept payments.
"But we cannot be judgmental enough for those who are desperate, who are doing what we call "kapit sa patalim" because they have their own financial and personal circumstances to do so," he said.
