Ceremonial turnover of PH 30-year STI Foresight plan set on Nov. 22
The National Academy of Science and Technology Philippines (NAST PHL), the country’s premier recognition and advisory body on science and technology (S&T), will formally turn over the 30-year science, technology and innovation (STI) “Foresight” plan and roadmap which seeks to ensure inclusive growth and sustainable development in the country on Nov. 22.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) announced that the virtual turnover ceremony of the “PAGTANAW 2050: The Philippine Foresight on Science Technology, and Innovation” is scheduled on Nov. 22, the first day of the week-long celebration of the 2021 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW).
The ceremony will be attended by some of the country’s notable academicians, scientists, and some members of the Cabinet.
“PAGTANAW 2050 is the first DOST funded inter-disciplinal and trans-disciplinal project on Philippine-focused science, technology, and innovation (STI) Foresight and Strategic Plan, which suggests significant drivers of change and provides insights and reflections on plausible STI development paths that will impact on the aspirations of the Filipino people by 2050,” the DOST said in a statement on Thursday, Nov. 4.
It said the foresight and strategic plan is firmly grounded on a shared vision of a united, inclusive, prosperous, and sustainable maritime archipelagic Philippines.
In June this year, DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Peña announced that the NAST PHL will release the Philippines’ STI Foresight and Roadmap for the period up to 2050.
It was de la Peña who prodded the NAST PHL to develop the STI foresight document and 30-year strategic plan.
“This Foresight includes a compendium of science, technology and innovation (STI) megatrends; global and national societal goals; and transdisciplinary/interdisciplinary operational areas such as Blue Economy, and current and emerging technologies,” de la Peña said.
He said the "report suggests significant drivers of change and provides insights and reflections on plausible STI development paths that will impact on the aspirations of the Filipino people by 2050.”
PAGTANAW 2050 is a project spearheaded by NAST PHL, which serves as the country’s highest recognition body for outstanding achievements in science and technology.
This year’s National Science and Technology Week anchored on the theme “Agham at Teknolohiya: Tugon sa Hamon ng Panahon” will be held virtually from Nov. 22 to 28.
“The celebration will highlight all the research and development (R&D) outputs as well as innovative products and services developed and offered by DOST agencies and regional offices that aim to help address the challenges brought about by the pandemic and climate change, among other societal concerns confronting the Filipino people,” the DOST said.
