Robredo calls on Filipinos: Emulate Bonifacio, stand up vs. abuses

Vice President Leni Robredo urged Filipinos to emulate the courage of Andres Bonifacio in standing up against abuses of "powerful interests" as the country celebrates the 158th birth anniversary of the national hero Tuesday, Nov. 30.

Robredo said in a statement that Bonifacio's leadership and heroism served as an inspiration to the people that prompted unity.

"Tumindig si Bonifacio, at nagsilbi itong inspirasyon sa pagtindig ng marami pang iba (Bonifacio stood up and became an inspiration for others to also stand up)," the Vice President said.

The opposition leader further said that the revolutionary leader "remains to be an inspiration up to this day."

"Binabalikan natin ang kanyang halimbawa sa tuwing kailangan nating itaya ang lahat sa ngalan ng katarungan at makataong lipunan. Dala ni Bonifacio ang diwa ng laylayang pumapalag sa pang-aabuso ng makakapangyarihang interes (We look up to him every time we have to give our all in the name of justice and humane society. He carries the spirit of the people who fight against abuses of the powerful interests)," Robredo said.

The Vice President stressed that the celebration of Bonifacio's birth anniversary is a celebration of his leadership that ignited unity to call for change, his love for the Filipinos, and his heroism.

"Patuloy natin itong isabuhay sa araw-araw; sa ganitong paraan, mapapanday natin ang bansang pinangarap ng ating mga bayani (Let's continue to live by this every day; through this, we can build a country that our heroes dreamed of)," Robredo said.

"Kaisa ako ng sambayanang Pilipino sa pagdiriwang ng kaarawan ni Gat Andres Bonifacio (I'm one with the Filipino people in celebrating the birth of Gat Andres Bonifacio)," she concluded.

Robredo is running for President in the May 2022 elections.
