COVID is the real enemy -- Mayor Isko

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso urged all Filipinos not to be fooled by fake news and to recognize that the coronavirus disease is the real enemy.

“Wag tayong malilito sa panahon na kung saan maraming mga bali-balitang maaaring hindi naman totoo at nalilito lamang tayo. Baka makalimutan natin na ang tunay na kalaban natin na pinipilit tayong padapain, pinipilit tayong gapiin ay ang virus na nagdulot ng pandemyang ito (Let us not be misled by fake news that tend to confuse us. We should not forget that the real enemy that is trying to bring us down, that is trying to overpower us, is the virus that brought about this pandemic),” said Domagoso in his speech during Gat Andres Bonifacio’s 158th birth anniversary on Tuesday, Nov. 30,.

He said the city of Manila has taken an aggressive stance in its response to the virus as seen in its widespread vaccine distribution in over 75 facilities around the city and its acquisition of large amounts of drugs believed to be effective in treating COVID-19 such as Remdesevir, Tocilizumab, Molnupiravir, and Baricitinib.

Domagoso paid tribute to medical frontliners who are toiling to care for every sick Filipino hit by the virus and called them national heroes.

“Ngayon maituturing natin ang mga bagong bayani ang mga doctors at nurses (Doctors and nurses should be referred to as our new heroes. Ngayong araw na ito ay kinikilala natin sila sapagkat nakalulungkot man isipin, iyong mga doktor at nurses (Today, we recognize them even as), some of them paid the ultimate price while serving our people,” said Domagoso.

Manila has also been working towards administering booster shots to as many medical frontliners as possible since the start of booster vaccinations on Friday, Nov. 19.

“Malapit na natin mapagtagumpayan ang giyera o laban natin sa COVID-19 (We will soon beat this virus),” said Domagoso.
