PH Red Cross continues relief ops for La Union residents pummeled by 'Maring'

The Philippine Red Cross continues to provide aid for residents of the province of La Union who were severely affected by Severe Tropical Storm (STS) "Maring", the agency said on Wednesday, November 3.

PRC's La Union Chapter distributed food items targeting over 256 families in Bacnotan, La Union on Wednesday.

Over 10 volunteers and staff from PRC La Union Chapter distributed food items in boxes which includes five kilograms of rice, 15 assorted canned goods, five packs of noodles, and 12 sachets of coffee in the town gymnasium in Barangay Nangalisan, Bacnotan.

To support the response provided by La Union Chapter, the PRC National Headquarters also deployed ten manpower in a Humanitarian Caravan composed of a 6x6 truck, rescue boat, command post, rescue vehicle, and food truck containing food items.

"The Red Cross is the lifeline of the people kaya laging kaming handa," PRC Chairman and CEO Senator Dick Gordan said.

"Anuman ang mangyari, patuloy lang ang pagserbisyo ng Red Cross volunteers at staff upang mas marami pang matulungan na mga Pilipino sa iba't ibang sulok ng Pilipinas (Whatever happens, the service of Red Cross volunteers and staff will continue help more people in every part of the country," he added.

PRC said that on October 11, 2021, when STS Maring hit several provinces in Northern Luzon, PRC volunteers were the first to respond on the ground, ready to conduct assessments, and send aid to the victims. T

They added that they also distributed potable water, provided clothing and facemasks, gave warm meals and bottled water, oriented them on proper hygiene, and provided psychosocial first aid.
