Muntinlupa City government to lift curfew

The Muntinlupa City government is set to lift the existing curfew of midnight to 4 a.m. following the approval of a resolution by Metro Manila mayors.

Metro Manila local chief executives under the Metro Manila Council (MMC) including Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi signed Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Resolution No. 21-25 to “lift the standardized and unified curfew hours in the National Capital Region starting on 04 November 2021 through the Metro Manila Local Government Units, subject to existing ordinances on the curfew hours of persons below eighteen (18) years old and the continued observance and enforcement of COVID-19 protocols and minimum public health standards.”

Majority Floor Leader Raul Corro of the Muntinlupa City Council told Manila Bulletin that they will repeal the existing curfew ordinance in Muntinlupa to comply with the MMDA resolution.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi said minors are still covered by the curfew from midnight to 4 a.m.

In their resolution, Metro Manila mayors noted that “with the approaching Christmas season, mall operators have agreed to adjust their operating hours by opening until 11:00 p.m., instead of the usual 10:00 p.m., in order for them to help in alleviating the traffic situation in the National Capital Region (NCR).”

In order “to complement the said adjustment in the mall hours and thus provide the mall goers and mall employees ample time to get home, the prevailing curfew hours of 12:00 midnight to 4:00 a.m. in Metro Manila should be lifted,” the mayors said.

The resolution noted that “all the Local Chief Executives in Metro Manila have agreed to enact their respective Executive Orders and/or adopt or amend their respective Ordinances therein lifting the curfew hours in the NCR.”

This is the first time that Metro Manila will have no curfew since the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic started last year.

On March 14, 2020, the Muntinlupa City Council passed an ordinance imposing a curfew in the city from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting March 15 to April 14 last year.
