House panel endorses construction of superhighway linking six Luzon provinces

The House Committee on Public Works and Highways has sought the construction of the Pacific Palisades Superhighway that would connect the provinces of Bicol, Quezon, Aurora, Quirino, Isabela and Cagayan.

The House panel endorsed for approval House Bill 5269 authored by Quezon Third District Rep. Aleta C. Suarez.

Suarez, vice chairperson of the House Committee on Agriculture and Food, lauded the committee approval of HB 5269, saying that it was also endorsed by the House Committee on Appropriations.

Floor deliberation and second reading approval of the measure is expected to be conducted as soon as the Lower House resumes session next week.

“A superhighway linking the provinces of Bicol, Quezon, Aurora, Quirino, Isabela and Cagayan will cut transportation time and hence facilitate trade among these localities,” she said.

Suarez explained that increased trade and economic activities in the beneficiary provinces will “mean decongestio of Metro Manmila because of lesser migration to find better jobs.”

“Basic social services can be easily delivered especially in time of calamities,” the administration solon pointed out.

According to her the superhighway will also provide the much-needed link between the Aurora and Cagayan ecozones, thus will make the Pacific side international trading center more attractive to investors.

“Overall, the potential positive impact of this project will not only redound to the six provinces involved but to the whole country,”she said.
