Comelec gives overview of handling of cancellation cases

Here is an overview of the handling of cancellation cases.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Wednesday provided the process amid the filing of a petition seeking to cancel the certificate of candidacy (COC) of presidential aspirant Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr in the May 2022 polls.

According to Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez, cases will first be raffled either to their First or Second division.

He said summons will be issued and served; and respondents will have five days to file their answer.

A pre-conference, Jimenez said, will be held and parties will be given three days to submit their respective memoranda.

The poll official said the matter will then be deemed submitted for resolution.

Several groups and personalities on Tuesday submitted a petition with the poll body seeking to cancel or deny the COC of the former senator over supposed "false material representation" stemming from a 1995 tax case.
