Duterte gives away milk tea to nat'l vax drive participants on Go's treat

A handful of participants during the launch of the "Bayanihan, Bakunahan" national vaccination drive were lucky enough to get free milk tea from President Duterte.

The Chief Executive spent roughly an hour at a mall in Masinag, Antipolo City Monday afternoon, Nov. 29, where the local launch of the three-day vaccination campaign was held.

After delivering his speech at the event and posing for photos on the stage, Duterte went down to the crowd and was handed several milk tea cups by his close-in staff.

He then gave the beverage away to both senior and non-senior vaccinees, who were obviously waiting for the President's gesture.

Duing the Facebook live feed, Senator Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go, who helped Duterte distribute the beverage, was heard saying, "Mayor, ako naman ang taya (Mayor, this one is on me)."

This wasn't just a throwaway line from Go; in fact, it was a reference to a "request" made by the President in this Facebook ad.

"Salamat sa pagbabakuna (Thank you for getting yourself vaccinated). You protect the country and...ang tao (and the people)," Duterte told an elderly woman who was treated to a milk tea.

At least five milk tea cups were given away on camera. However, a source told the Manila Bulletin that 30 orders were made from the particular milk tea branch.

President Duterte left the venue afterward.
