Scattered rains prevail over parts of PH due to shear line, ITCZ

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday, Nov. 28, said the shear line continues to affect the northeastern section of northern Luzon, while the intertropical convergence (ITCZ) prevails over Palawan and Mindanao.

In the next 24 hours, PAGASA said the shear line, also known as the tail-end of the frontal system, as well as the easterlies, may bring cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms over Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes.

The ITCZ may also cause cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms over Palawan, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

The shear line is where the northeasterly and easterly winds converge, while the ITCZ is where winds coming from the northern and southern hemispheres converge. Both are rain-bearing weather systems.

PAGASA said mostly partly cloudy conditions may persist across the rest of the country.

Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Apayao, and Abra may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon, locally called "amihan."

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will also have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms and easterlies.

The State weather bureau, however, warned that severe thunderstorm activities could sometimes trigger flash floods or landslides.

Likewise, a gale warning is in effect as of Sunday morning due to strong to gale-force winds associated with the northeast monsoon.

Winds associated with the northeast monsoon may bring rough to very rough seas over the northern, eastern, and western seaboards of northern Luzon.

PAGASA said fishing boats and other small seacrafts should not venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels should watch out for big waves.
