Robredo collects campaign materials designed and distributed by supporters

Presidential aspirant Vice President Leni Robredo’s campaign is turning out to be different as she admitted being a constant recipient of election paraphernalia from her supporters rather than giving out her own tarpaulins, stickers, and shirts.

During her Sunday radio show, the Vice President said that in touring different cities and provinces to thank her supporters and volunteers, she has been receiving a lot of possible campaign materials from them.

Robredo was even surprised to learn that she and running mate Senator Kiko Pangilinan already have billboards and tarpaulins despite not yet releasing their own versions.

“Nakakaipon kami ng maraming campaign na paraphernalia habang umiikot. Sabi ko baliktad na iyong mundo. Kasi dati iyong kandidato ang nagbibigay eh. (We have been accumulating a lot of campaign paraphernalia while we’re going around. I said the world is really different. Before, it’s the candidates who give),” she said.

Aside from food, her supporters have been handing them tarpaulins, stickers, and t-shirts, which are completely unexpected, Robredo added.

Her volunteers have been spending their own money on these materials. A quick look into the Facebook groups of Robredo’s supporters and volunteers will show how they are raising funds for the production of these materials.

Even the nationwide lugaw-feeding events held in her name were funded by supporters while private donors lend her team spaces to turn into their headquarters.

The aspiring president said they will have their shoot for the official tarpaulins and posters this week, so everything that’s being printed out by supporters all came from old images of her and Pangilinan.

They can soon start handing official materials in two weeks, but Robredo said she is also a fan of the different materials her supporters are using.

“Dati kasi kinasanayan na mayroong isang look lang. Itong sinasabi nila noon may branding dapat (Before, we were used to have only one look. This is what they say to have a branding),” she noted.

“Ngayon na iba-iba, parang maganda tingnan (Now, with different materials, it looks beautiful). Of course, maglalabas pa din tayo ng galing sa atin. Pero ngayon na wala pa, okay nga na iba-iba kasi talaga siyang crowd source. Kahit hindi mo hinihingi, talaga iyong mga tao ang nagpapagawa (we are going to release something. But until then, it’s okay to have different because it’s really crowd source. Even though you don’t ask for them, it’s the people themselves who have them produced),” Robredo added.
