QC gov't denies allegations it prevented a political tandem from staging motorcade
The Quezon City government on Sunday, Nov. 28, condemned the allegations that the city prevented a presidential and vice-presidential candidate to hold an event in the Quezon Memorial Circle (QMC).
This, after the Team Malayang Quezon City Rep. Mike Defensor's statement on Saturday, Nov. 27, said that the city government did not allow a motorcade that was supposed to be conducted by the political tandem on Dec. 8.
He added that they already checked the date and venue in the park for the event which turned out to be available, but the office of the mayor said that the schedule was already taken and declined their request.
In a statement released by the local government on Sunday, Nov. 28, it said that the insinuation is a "blatant example of fake news."
It added that the group was offered an alternate venue to hold the activity as the original space that they requested is not meant for such activities.
According to the local government, the venue offered was also used by previous candidates.
"Alam naman po natin na panahon ng pulitika ngayon. Ngunit ang ganitong klaseng pang-iintriga at panilinlang ay hindi wastong gawain kahit kailan(We know that now is a season for politics. However, this kind of intrigue and deception is never a proper action)," it stated.
It also clarified that they are open and will issue permits to any lawful activities regardless of which political candidate it supports, as long as the organizers obey the regulations and procedures to reserve the allowed and permitted venues.
The local government expressed gratitude to the candidates who respected the rules and regulations of the city and did not insist on any special entitlements for fairness.Â
