Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) standard-bearer Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. has received the support of former Malacañang spokesperson Harry Roque in his presidential bid in the 2022 May national elections.
Roque, a former spokesman of President Rodrigo Duterte, endorsed the presidential aspirant and expressed his desire to accept the adoption of the PFP as guest candidate for senator in a letter sent to PFP chairman Marcos last Thursday, Nov. 25.
The move was not a surprise as more political personalities are expected to join the Bongbong-Sara Uniteam alliance in the coming days and further boost Marcos’ call for unity as the country slowly rebounds from the COVID-19 pandemic towards healing and national recovery.
The Bongbong-Sara Uniteam, an alliance among PFP, Lakas–Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD), Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP) and Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), is fielding a Marcos-Sara Duterte tandem which is currently leading by a wide margin in the latest presidential and vice presidential surveys nationwide.
“Unity will make our country strong and stable. Let us not allow ourselves to remain divided by partisan politics before, during the campaign and after we have already installed new leaders in our government,” the former senator said.
Roque, a former Kabayan partylist solon, law professor and human rights advocate, was named Palace spokesperson from 2017 to 2018 and was reappointed in April 2020 until his resignation in November this year when he officially filed his certificate of candidacy for senator.
