Marikina City lights up 2 barangays; residents urged to get vaccinated against COVID-19

Marikina City Mayor Marcelino "Marcy" Teodoro together with other city government officials switched on decorative street lights in two of its barangays on Friday in a bid to further improve the safety and security of the residents.

Teodoro said that the simple yet very attractive street light decoration symbolizes hope that should always remain in the hearts of the people amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Habang naglalakad ako kanina, para ba akong naglalakad sa kadiliman, pero noong binuksan na ang mga ilaw, nagsilbi na itong liwanag sa madilim na paligid. Ang mga ilaw na ito ay maging simbolo sana ng pag-asa sa puso nating lahat (While I was walking earlier, I felt like I was walking in total darkness, however when the lights were switched on, they brighten up the surroundings. I hope it will symbolize hope in our hearts," Teodoro said.

Teodoro also urged the public to get vaccinated to protect themselves against the virus and to achieve herd immunity in the country.

On Nov. 23, the local government unit (LGU) said it is offering special second dose inoculation for vaccinees who were unable to attend their previous immunization schedule.

Marikina will conduct the special vaccination at Marikina Elementary School in Barangay Sta. Elena on the following dates: Monday, Nov. 29; and Tuesday, Nov. 30 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The LGU added that only those who received the first dose of Sinovac, AstraZeneca, Moderna, Sputnik V, and Sinopharm vaccines will be given their second dose.
