The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) branded China’s recent claim that the Ayungin Shoal was within its territorial jurisdiction, and that the Philippines should remove its “grounded vessel” from what it said was Ren’ai Jiao, as another example of the super power’s aggressive “wolf warrior diplomacy”.
Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson retorted that the country need not remove the BRP Sierra Madre, but should even refurbish it, if only to underscore the country’s claim at Ayungin Shoal.
On the political front, the tandem of former senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio just got more formidable team when it drew the support of former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and former senator Jinggoy Estrada, son of another former president in Joseph Estrada. This came just a few hours after four political parties forged an alliance to support the Bongbong-Sara partnership.
