In an exclusive story published in the Technews section of the Manila Bulletin titled, Anatomy of the SMS scam offering high-paying part-time jobs, published on November 24, 2021, https://mb.com.ph/2021/11/24/anatomy-of-the-sms-scam-offering-high-paying-part-time-jobs/ I mentioned that "I am, however, expecting that this scam will evolve and will have a local counterpart soon." True enough, just today scammers used the logo and name of SM Supermalls, a brand all Filipinos know about. I also posted on my social media account that if ever a user clicked and register on the fraudulent link and eventually get scammed, SM has nothing to do with it.
SM Supermalls sent this official statement about the issue.
